Architecture – JUCY Snooze Hotel & Head Office

This project involves the repurposing of 6,000m2 of an existing commercial building into a mixed use office space, hotel/hostel and street level restaurant and bar.

Once completed, this will be the largest backpacker’s hostel in New Zealand, and will offer a unique combination of compact, individual ensuite rooms as well as personal sleeping pods within various sized dormitory rooms. High quality shared spaces have been prioritised in the design of layouts of the hostel as well as the office space, so that all building users have inspiring areas socialise and work in.

Views both from, and into, the building have been designed to make the most of this prominent city corner on a ridge overlooking the city and harbour.

Stage 1 comprises work related to the base building structure and refurbishment of the building envelope. Stage 2 encompasses the internal fitout, including all hotel and hostel rooms, and is planned to commence in February 2021 and be completed ready for the first guests in October 2021.

This development will provide a new focal point in this area of the city. The existing building was in a poor state and had no relationship to the street or pedestrians. The busy city corner will be transformed by the new use, activated at street level with guests and locals using the hotel, office space and food and beverage offerings, bringing the building to life and improving the streetscape.
