Spatial – ASB 300 Queen St

ASB presented CPRW with the challenge of breathing new life into the tired 300 Queen St site and establish it as the new flagship store on Auckland’s busiest street.
Our approach was to counteract the existing constraints of a deep plan, no windows, and a low ceiling, with a sense of light and openness one gets outside on a street or square.

The continuity of Queen St has been maintained by bringing the external pavers through to the interior, forming a square for people to gather.

Another key strategy was to lift the ceilings as high as possible and create the impression of daylight by employing a ‘lantern’ ceiling. These are clusters of non-combustible tubes suspended between ceiling bays to reflect light across the space in a dappled manner.
